Dr. Penn Pershing

Dr. Penn Pershing serves as a cloning scientist working within the remnants of the Galactic Empire in the aftermath of its collapse. Operating from a hidden facility on the planet Nevarro, this soft-spoken researcher finds himself caught between his scientific pursuits and the increasingly questionable demands of his Imperial superiors. His expertise in genetic manipulation and cloning technology makes him a valuable asset to Moff Gideon’s secretive operations.

The doctor’s involvement with Grogu, the Force-sensitive foundling known as “The Child,” forms a central part of his story arc. Tasked with conducting experiments using the young creature’s blood, Pershing demonstrates a conflicted nature—whilst he complies with orders, he shows genuine concern for his subject’s wellbeing. This internal struggle becomes evident when he advocates for keeping Grogu alive rather than extracting all his blood at once, citing the need for a living donor.

Omid Abtahi brings a nuanced performance to the role, portraying Pershing as neither wholly villainous nor entirely sympathetic. The character’s nervous demeanour and reluctant participation in Imperial schemes suggest a man who may have noble intentions despite working for corrupt masters. His scientific background appears rooted in legitimate research, though the applications of his work serve darker purposes.

Following the events on Nevarro, Pershing’s fate becomes intertwined with the New Republic’s efforts to rehabilitate former Imperial personnel. His knowledge of cloning technology and genetic research makes him both an asset and a potential threat in the post-Empire galaxy.
