The orange and white colour scheme immediately distinguishes the droid, whilst its dome-shaped head remains magnetically attached despite the constant rolling motion beneath.

Brian Herring brought the character to life through puppeteering, working alongside a team that combined practical effects with digital enhancement. The performance required precise coordination to convey emotion and personality through mechanical movements and electronic beeps. This blend of traditional puppetry with modern filmmaking techniques created a droid that feels both futuristic and tangible on screen.

The droid serves as Poe Dameron’s loyal companion in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, carrying crucial map data that becomes central to the film’s plot. When separated from its pilot, the astromech demonstrates remarkable independence and problem-solving abilities whilst traversing the desert planet Jakku. The character’s journey leads to an alliance with Rey, showcasing the droid’s capacity for forming new bonds.
