Fenrir Greyback

Fenrir Greyback stands as one of the wizarding world’s most feared werewolves, known for his deliberate targeting of children and his savage abandonment of the wizarding community’s attempts to integrate lycanthropes into society. Unlike most werewolves who struggle with their condition, Greyback embraces his lycanthropy and actively seeks to spread it, particularly amongst young witches and wizards whom he can then raise to despise normal human society.

Born in 1947 or earlier, this grey-haired wizard chose to live on the fringes of civilisation, leading what he calls his “werewolf army” of similarly outcast lycanthropes. His reputation for cruelty extends beyond his werewolf attacks; even in human form, he exhibits predatory behaviour and shows a disturbing preference for human flesh. The wizarding authorities consider him extremely dangerous, as he deliberately infects children during his transformations to create new followers loyal to his cause.

During the Second Wizarding War, Greyback aligned himself with Lord Voldemort’s forces, though the Dark Lord never granted him full Death Eater status. This arrangement allowed him greater freedom to pursue his violent agenda whilst providing Voldemort with a useful weapon of terror. His presence at various Death Eater operations brought an additional layer of brutality to their campaigns, as his attacks left lasting trauma even on those who survived.

Portrayed by Dave Legeno in the film adaptations, Greyback appears as a wild, unkempt figure whose mere presence unsettles both his allies and enemies. His legacy serves as a dark reminder of how magical conditions like lycanthropy can be weaponised by those who choose hatred over integration with wizarding society.
