Portrayed by Jim McManus
The younger brother of Albus Dumbledore, Aberforth operates the Hog’s Head Inn in Hogsmeade, maintaining a deliberately low profile whilst harbouring deep-seated resentments about his family’s tragic past. Born in the late 19th century, he witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of his brother’s ambitious plans and the death of their sister Ariana, an event that fractured the Dumbledore family permanently.
Unlike his scholarly brother, Aberforth chose a path of practical anonymity, running his somewhat disreputable pub with its clientele of unsavoury characters and questionable dealings. His establishment serves as more than just a drinking hole—during the Second Wizarding War, he secretly aided the resistance by helping students escape Hogwarts through a hidden passage connecting his pub to the Room of Requirement. His goat Patronus reflects both his straightforward nature and his preference for creatures over complex human relationships.
Standing tall with grey hair and piercing blue eyes that mirror his brother’s, Aberforth possesses the same magical ability but channels it towards protection rather than grand schemes. His Gryffindor courage manifests in quiet acts of defiance rather than public heroics. The barman’s gruff exterior conceals a man who learned early that good intentions can lead to terrible consequences, making him deeply suspicious of anyone who claims to act for the greater good.
Though estranged from Albus for decades, their final reconciliation came through mutual sacrifice during the war against Voldemort, proving that even the most damaged family bonds can serve a purpose when darkness threatens the wizarding world.
