About Alice Longbottom

Alice Longbottom represents one of the wizarding world’s most tragic figures, a talented Auror whose promising career ended in devastating circumstances. Born into pure-blood society before 1959, she demonstrated exceptional magical ability that led her to join the prestigious Auror programme at the Ministry of Magic’s Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Her skills in dark wizard detection and capture made her a formidable opponent against Voldemort’s rising forces during the First Wizarding War.

Alongside her husband Frank, also an accomplished Auror, Alice became a key member of the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore’s secret resistance organisation. The couple’s dedication to fighting dark magic put them directly in harm’s way, but their expertise proved invaluable in combating Death Eater activities. Their partnership extended beyond their professional lives, creating a formidable team both in marriage and in their dangerous work protecting the wizarding community.

The Longbottoms’ lives changed forever shortly after Voldemort’s initial defeat in 1981. Death Eaters Bellatrix Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jr tortured the couple using the Cruciatus Curse, seeking information about their fallen master’s whereabouts. The prolonged torture permanently damaged their minds, leaving them unable to recognise their own family members.

Now permanent residents of St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, Alice and Frank require constant care. Their son Neville, raised by his grandmother Augusta, grew up without his parents’ guidance but inherited their courage and determination. Alice’s sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder of the war’s true cost and the price paid by those who stood against darkness.
