Baze Malbus serves as a heavily armed warrior and former Temple Guardian who abandoned his spiritual beliefs after the Empire’s destruction of Jedha City’s holy sites. Born on the desert moon in 54 BBY, he dedicated his early life to protecting the ancient Jedi temples alongside the Guardians of the Whills, a religious order that revered the Force without wielding lightsabres.

The Empire’s occupation of Jedha transformed this once-devout guardian into a pragmatic fighter who relies on firepower rather than faith. Armed with an MWC-35c “Staccato Lightning” repeating cannon and various explosive devices, he compensates for his lost spiritual connection through superior weaponry and tactical expertise. His partnership with Chirrut Îmwe, a blind warrior-monk who maintains unwavering faith in the Force, creates a compelling dynamic between cynicism and belief.

When the Rebel Alliance launches its desperate mission to steal the Death Star plans, Baze joins the Rogue One team despite his reservations about their chances of success. His military experience and heavy weapons skills prove invaluable during the assault on the Imperial facility at Scarif. The grizzled warrior meets his end defending the mission’s objectives, but not before witnessing events that restore some measure of his lost faith.
