His species possesses exceptional hearing abilities, making them naturally gifted musicians throughout the galaxy. The diminutive alien sits behind his red ball-shaped keyboard instrument, creating the rhythmic foundation for the band’s performances.

Portrayed by Simon J. Williamson, the character first appeared in Return of the Jedi during the memorable cantina sequence at Jabba’s sail barge. The Max Rebo Band performs for the crime lord’s guests, providing an otherworldly musical backdrop to the palace’s seedy atmosphere. Their most notable performance occurs just before Luke Skywalker’s arrival, establishing the decadent environment that the young Jedi must navigate.

The musician’s practical puppet design required careful coordination to bring the character to life on screen.
