Rabastan Lestrange stands as one of the most dangerous yet overlooked figures amongst Lord Voldemort’s inner circle of Death Eaters. A pure-blood wizard born into the ancient Lestrange family before 1964, he was sorted into Slytherin House at Hogwarts, where his allegiance to blood supremacist ideologies likely took root alongside his magical education.
The younger brother of Rodolphus Lestrange, Rabastan became entangled in the dark web of the Lestrange family’s fanatical devotion to the Dark Arts. His sister-in-law, Bellatrix Lestrange née Black, would prove to be one of Voldemort’s most ruthless followers, creating a family unit entirely dedicated to the Death Eater cause. This close-knit trio of Lestranges formed a particularly vicious subset within Voldemort’s ranks.
Following Voldemort’s first downfall in 1981, Rabastan joined his brother and Bellatrix in one of the wizarding world’s most heinous crimes: the torture of Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom using the Cruciatus Curse. This brutal attack, intended to extract information about their master’s whereabouts, left the Longbottoms permanently incapacitated and earned all three perpetrators life sentences in Azkaban prison.
After escaping Azkaban in 1996 alongside other Death Eaters, Rabastan resumed his service to the resurrected Dark Lord. Unlike his more prominent relatives, he operates largely in the shadows, making him no less dangerous for his relative anonymity. His survival of the Second Wizarding War means this devoted follower of pure-blood supremacy remains at large.
