A smooth-talking smuggler and accomplished pilot, Lando Calrissian operates on the fringes of galactic society with equal parts charm and cunning. Born on the desert planet Socorro, he made his reputation as a gambler and scoundrel, famously winning the Millennium Falcon from Han Solo in a card game before eventually losing it back. His swagger and distinctive cape became his calling cards throughout the galaxy’s underworld.

When audiences first encountered him in The Empire Strikes Back, Lando had traded his freewheeling lifestyle for respectability as Baron Administrator of Cloud City, a tibanna gas mining operation floating in the atmosphere of Bespin. However, his past caught up with him when Darth Vader forced him to betray Han Solo and Princess Leia, leading to Solo’s carbonite freezing. The weight of this betrayal clearly haunts him, driving his subsequent actions throughout the original trilogy.

Seeking redemption, Lando joined the Rebel Alliance and played crucial roles in rescuing Han from Jabba’s palace and leading the starfighter assault on the second Death Star. Billy Dee Williams brought a sophisticated charisma to the role that distinguished Lando from other roguish characters in the saga. His confident delivery and natural magnetism made him an instant standout, even when making morally questionable choices.

Decades later, he returned in The Rise of Skywalker as a weathered veteran who helped rally the galaxy’s final stand against the First Order, proving that even retired scoundrels can become heroes when the stakes demand it.
