Draco Malfoy

Born into one of wizarding Britain’s most prominent pure-blood families, Draco Malfoy entered Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991 with expectations weighing heavily on his shoulders. Sorted into Slytherin House, he quickly established himself as Harry Potter’s primary school rival, driven by family prejudices and a deep-seated belief in blood purity. His father Lucius’s influence shaped much of his early worldview, leading him to look down upon Muggle-born witches and wizards whilst asserting his family’s superiority.

Throughout his school years, Malfoy served as a Seeker on the Slytherin Quidditch team and later joined Dolores Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad during her tenure as High Inquisitor. His antagonistic relationship with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger became a constant throughout their time at Hogwarts, often manifesting in cruel taunts and deliberate attempts to undermine Gryffindor House.

The young Slytherin’s life took a dramatically darker turn during his sixth year when Lord Voldemort tasked him with an impossible mission: to kill Albus Dumbledore. This assignment revealed the true cost of his family’s allegiance to the Dark Lord, as Malfoy struggled with the moral weight of murder whilst fearing for his family’s safety.

Actor Tom Felton brought complexity to this initially straightforward antagonist, particularly in the later films where the character’s internal conflict became more apparent. His portrayal showed how a privileged, prejudiced boy could become trapped by circumstances beyond his control, ultimately questioning everything he had been taught to believe.
