Portrayed by Kathleen Cauley
Lavender Brown was a pure-blood witch who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1998, where the Sorting Hat placed her in Gryffindor House. Born between September 1979 and April 1980, she shared a dormitory with fellow Gryffindors Hermione Granger and Parvati Patil, developing a particularly close friendship with the latter through their shared fascination with Divination.
During her time at Hogwarts, she demonstrated a keen interest in Professor Trelawney’s Divination classes, often enthusiastically embracing predictions and mystical interpretations alongside Parvati. Her romantic relationship with Ron Weasley during their sixth year became a notable part of her Hogwarts experience, though it ultimately ended when Ron’s feelings shifted elsewhere. Despite personal disappointments, she showed considerable courage by joining Dumbledore’s Army, secretly training in defensive magic against the Dark Arts.
When Voldemort’s forces attacked Hogwarts in May 1998, she chose to remain and fight in the Battle of Hogwarts rather than evacuate with younger students. During the fierce fighting, she was savagely attacked by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback in the castle grounds. Though Hermione Granger intervened to prevent further harm, the injuries proved fatal, and she died at just eighteen years old.
Her death represents one of the many young lives lost during the final confrontation between good and evil in the wizarding world, highlighting the ultimate price paid by students who chose to defend their school and community against dark forces.
