Armando Dippet

Armando Dippet served as Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for much of the early-to-mid 20th century, overseeing the school during some of its most turbulent times. Born in October 1637, this remarkably long-lived wizard witnessed centuries of magical history before taking the helm of Britain’s most prestigious wizarding institution. His tenure spanned several decades, ending sometime between 1965 and 1971 when Albus Dumbledore succeeded him.

During his leadership, Dippet faced one of Hogwarts’ darkest periods when the Chamber of Secrets was opened in the 1940s. The mysterious attacks on Muggle-born students created widespread panic throughout the school, ultimately leading to the tragic death of student Myrtle Warren. Under immense pressure from the Ministry of Magic and the Board of Governors, he reluctantly closed the school temporarily until the perceived threat was neutralised.

The crisis appeared resolved when young Tom Riddle, then a student, seemingly identified gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid as the culprit. Dippet authorised Hagrid’s expulsion and the snapping of his wand, a decision that would later prove tragically misguided. Unknown to the headmaster, Riddle himself had opened the Chamber and manipulated events to frame the innocent half-giant.

Dippet passed away in late 1992 at the extraordinary age of 354 or 355, having lived through the rise and fall of several Dark wizards. His portrait now hangs in the headmaster’s office, continuing to offer counsel to his successors from beyond the grave.
