Born into a prominent Ministry family, he grew up under the strict authority of his father, Bartemius Crouch Senior, a high-ranking official known for his uncompromising stance against Dark Magic. This oppressive relationship would ultimately push the young wizard towards the very darkness his father fought against.

During Voldemort’s first rise to power, Crouch Junior joined the Death Eaters and participated in the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom using the Cruciatus Curse. This crime led to his imprisonment in Azkaban, though his mother’s dying wish resulted in a secret rescue orchestrated by his guilt-ridden father. The family staged the mother’s death whilst she took Polyjuice Potion to assume her son’s appearance, allowing him to escape whilst she died in his place in the prison.

Years later, Crouch Junior emerged as a key player in Voldemort’s return, spending an entire school year impersonating the renowned Auror Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody through Polyjuice Potion. As the fake Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, he manipulated the Triwizard Tournament to ensure Harry Potter’s participation in his master’s resurrection ritual. His performance was so convincing that neither students nor staff suspected the deception until the truth was revealed through Veritaserum, demonstrating his exceptional magical skill and psychological cunning.
