Bob Ogden served as Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Squad during the early-to-mid 20th century, representing the Ministry of Magic’s attempts to maintain order in Britain’s wizarding community. Born no later than 1908, this dedicated law enforcement official found himself tasked with investigating some of the wizarding world’s most dangerous individuals and families.
In 1943, Ogden undertook a particularly significant mission when he travelled to Little Hangleton to arrest Morfin Gaunt for attacking a Muggle. The visit to the squalid Gaunt shack proved both illuminating and perilous, as Ogden encountered the volatile and supremacist family firsthand. Morfin’s violent father, Marvolo Gaunt, immediately took offence to the Ministry official’s presence, leading to a confrontation that showcased the deep-seated prejudices and instability within the ancient pureblood line.
During this tense encounter, Ogden demonstrated remarkable professionalism despite facing both magical assault and verbal abuse from the Gaunts. His investigation ultimately led to the arrests of both Marvolo and Morfin, though the family’s connection to Salazar Slytherin and their possession of significant magical artefacts made the case particularly complex. The memory of this visit would later prove crucial to understanding the background of Tom Riddle’s maternal family.
Ogden passed away sometime before September 1996, but his meticulous record-keeping and investigative work continued to serve the wizarding world well beyond his death. His encounter with the Gaunt family became instrumental evidence in the fight against Lord Voldemort decades later.
