Ogg served as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s gamekeeper during the 1960s, maintaining the castle’s grounds and caring for the magical creatures that roamed the extensive estate. His role placed him in charge of the Forbidden Forest and its dangerous inhabitants, requiring both courage and extensive knowledge of magical beast behaviour. The position demanded someone capable of handling everything from relatively harmless creatures to the more perilous beings that made their home in the ancient woodland surrounding the school.

During his tenure, Ogg worked closely with the Hogwarts staff and occasionally interacted with students who ventured too close to restricted areas. His responsibilities included feeding and monitoring the various creatures used in Care of Magical Creatures lessons, as well as ensuring that the more dangerous forest dwellers remained safely away from the castle grounds. The gamekeeper’s hut, located on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, served as both his residence and base of operations.

Ogg eventually departed from his position, though the circumstances surrounding his leaving remain unclear. His successor, Rubeus Hagrid, would later take over the role and transform it significantly, bringing a more hands-on approach to magical creature care and education. The transition between gamekeepers marked a shift in how Hogwarts approached the management of its grounds, with Hagrid’s appointment representing Professor Dumbledore’s confidence in giving former students second chances at productive careers within the magical community.
